Our Story

Founded by sisters, Laura (left) and Rachel (right), from an idea when Rachel was fourteen. She could not wait to tell Laura and from that moment Careaux was born and it has been their sole focus and dream ever since to together bring Careaux to life for women.

Rachel had always loved clothes, and always remembered moments in her life by what she and others were wearing, how special they made her feel and how each outfit was carefully constructed to tell a story to reflect how you were feeling. Therefore to incorporate her love for clothes, for one of her art pieces she designed and created a dress from start to finish with her Nana, who had worked in a factory from when she was fourteen.

She had grown up in a time of tailoring and fitting every dress to each woman, with the perfect finish to every garment. She spoke with such passion about the importance of this and the love that went into seeing a garment come to life.

Rachel always associates that dress with precious moments with her Nana and fondly remembers her old Singer sewing machine and tin of buttons.

In 2012, Rachel and Laura trademarked Careaux in memory of her.

Alongside this, Laura had a deep love for investment pieces and Rachel used to borrow Laura’s clothes as part of her sisterly duties but there was always something she wanted to change but she couldn’t. Either the top was too big or skirt too small or she loved the skirt style but wanted a different top style or vice versa. Growing up, as mentioned, Maths was a huge part of Rachel’s life. She used to spend time thinking about solving problems from Maths problems to real world problems and thinking of different ways to reach the solution. Borrowing Laura’s clothes and the problems Rachel faced with fit and style brought to the forefront was the fact and contradiction that each and everyone one of us were different; different style, different size but clothing did not even acknowledge or reflect this. It never made sense to Rachel that there was still restricted sizing and little customisation to reflect the individual and the actual clothing had not changed for such a long time. These are what became the foundation of the idea for Careaux.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for your support. We cannot wait for you to be a part of Careaux. With love, Rachel and Laura x

Our Values

Quality and Fit

Careaux is inspired by our childhood memories of making dresses with our Nana, who had worked in a factory from when she was fourteen. She had grown up in a time of quality, tailoring and fitting every dress to the individual she spoke with such passion about the importance of this and of the love that went into seeing a garment come to life.

Therefore, quality and fit are the foundations of Careaux.

Quality is paramount- from the most exquisite fabric curated from top Italian, Portugese and Japanese mills, with a heritage in combining luxury and quality to each Careaux piece perfectly and intricately tailored for you. A true celebration of the finest British craftmanship.

The fit is the characteristic of Careaux. Each and every one of us are our own shape and own size, all equally unique and different. Each Careaux piece is a celebration of our uniqueness, which changes to fit perfectly to you and your lifestyle.

We have been researching and developing for years to capture that feeling of finding the dress, your dress that you feel like you in -to cherish and treasure forever.

Giving Back

From as far as we can remember, we have always wanted Careaux to be a way to just help as much as we can and give back to do whatever we can to change the world for the better. We wanted to do this right from the very start, for Careaux to create change and be a force for good.

We believe anyone can achieve their dreams and can do anything they put their mind to regardless of age, size, shape, background, and we want to do everything we can to support this.

Through every dress we make a donation to a charity close to the hearts of our client. We are currently developing our long term partnerships and social impact strategy with the vision to establish The Careaux Foundation.

We started our giving back journey with one of our favourite things to do- volunteering in schools. Rachel combined her love of fashion and Maths to create the Careaux dress and she now takes every opportunity to promote STEM skills to the younger generations. From being a STEM ambassador, to Soapbox Science to running our ‘Create and Change the World with Mathematics’ workshop, which aims to shows you can do anything you put your mind to.

Laura has Cystic Fibrosis and is currently waiting for a double lung transplant. Therefore, we are both extremely passionate about raising awareness and supporting diversity, disabilities and inclusion.

We have several upcoming initiatives.

We are so proud to be ambassadors for the Pankhurst’s Centre ‘Some Women Centenary City’ project, creating an archive to capture this year’s #pankhurst100 celebrations with the aim to remind us all we have the ‘power to change the social and political context’ of our time. We have been commissioned to create a Careaux piece for the exhibition starting 21st November.

We have been commissioned by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to create a Careaux dress using medication boxes, to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and to promote sustainability and recycling to tackle the issue of plastics.

We would really love to hear any ideas you have on giving back and ways we can get involved. Please let us know the causes you would like to see us support, we love hearing about amazing organisations changing the world!

Diversity, Uniqueness and Equality

The Careaux dress is a true symbol of our uniqueness and our diversity, as each and every one of us has our own shape and style, each different and changing. Yet dresses have not changed and are still one size throughout - not accommodating to all the different shapes and styles we encompass and not accommodating to us as individuals.

We aim to democratise fashion and celebrate being you, any shape, any style, any age.
